Salvation The Captive Series Volume 4 Erica Stevens 9781484010679 Books

This was a much anticipated ending to a roller coaster series that had me screaming for more. After finishing book one two and three I could not believe book four Salvation had not been published. I devoured this book like a quick snack and felt like I had not eaten at all. The young, immature heroine was spared a worse tragedy than what she could have endured and i was pleased with that; however i feel like readers deserved more than what we got with Aria and Braith's reunion. After enduring three books of fore play we did not get the expected "climax" . What we got was more like a dash of tepid water thrown at us. In the future I will likely stay away from cliffhangers. I do not enjoy the feeling of hanging. I will stay away from romance books books with a young girl as the heroine. I have to conclude that the author had to tread lightly in bringing Aria's and Braith's relationship to a respectable end and left out the Hot romance. Mark this for young readers

Salvation The Captive Series Volume 4 Erica Stevens 9781484010679 Books Reviews

Many of the storyline arcs from the first three books reach a conclusion in this one. There are a few surprises along the way and a battle filled with action and suspense. While the series could end here and a reader be satisfied there are just enough hints toward the future to support interest in the next book. The audiobook for this continues to miss the mark slightly, but that is hard to avoid at this point where the narrator has set the voices of the characters. It still grates this reader/listener's ears to hear high-pitched female sounding voices used for men. Even with this issue I would still recommend the book and audiobook to those who prefer to read or listen, or do the immersion reading available on the .
The final of four books in this amusing tale of girl meets vampire. There are a lot of things I like about this story, and a few that I don't. Over all I would rate this particular book as a 3, but the over all series a strong 3.5. I enjoyed reading this series very much. It was entertaining with a slight new twist to your typical vamp story. I really enjoyed the well developed characters (love it when an author can make you feel like you know these people and Erica does this in most of her stories). There was also a good bit of adventure and action which sometimes left me turning pages pretty fast. So why only a 3 for the final book? Lets work in reverse ...

The Ugly
*Wishy-washy-ness! This is the one thing that can kill a good story for me and sadly, Erica Stevens tends to lean towards this style of writing. Every time they touch it is earth shattering. Every time they kiss it is the kiss of all kisses that leave them breathless. I understand she is trying to get across their intense emotion for one another, however, if there was one piece of advice I could give to this author it would be to find different ways to show these feelings in her writing ... lease US breathless, not just the characters. Even still, this wont keep me from buying and reading her stories. They are entertaining.
*If that girl looked at Braith one more time and her "mouth went dry" I think I would have thrown my . Actually, I would never throw my . This one phrase used over and over was distracting for me. I would have loved to have seen her "feel butterflies" or heck, maybe even had her drool, or her thighs erupt in flames. Anything different. Repetitive phrasing is also one of those pet peeves that can distract me from good immersion in a story.
*There were a lot of unnecessary things in this book that seemed like filler to me. For example, the King coming back to "death". He could have stayed in his grave and it would have made no more or less impact on the story. I strongly feel like this forth book could have all been finished in the previous book. It was a bit obvious that the author was stretching the story to make a fourth book in the series. A slight longer third novel to end the series would have been a-okay with me! )

The Bad (there will be spoilers)
*I was actually a little disappointed in Xavier. In her previous book he was built up to be a mysterious, silent type character. I thought for sure he would be a key figure ... maybe opening up a serious can of whoop-ass! Nope. I kept waiting for it and just when I thought he was gonna open up and BAM! Nope. His character fizzled out like dud firework. So disappointing.
*Her torture was not very torturous. I think it would have been FAR more entertaining to have the King almost have his way with her, if not have it! Nothing would have fired me up more and screamed for the kings death!! I just think she should have suffered more. A broken finger and cup of blood does not a torture make. Aria is a tough cookie. She should have suffered some real vampire wrath. I couldn't help but think she got off pretty easy.
*Not a whole lot of loss and sacrifice for a civil war. This element for me was very much missed. The tension between human and vampire is a no-brainer. I wish there would have been more surrounding tension. The loss of David was tragic ... for Aria. Someone had to die and this was an appropriate death. I get it. I just wish there could have been a little more emotional impact ... for example, what if Jack sacrificed himself for the greater good of both parties? Or even Melinda? Sadly the conflict resolution seemed too easy and left me a little disappointed.

The Good
*The main fight scene in the King's chamber was really entertaining. I loved it! I was kept guessing until the very end. I gripped my tight when reading this section and found myself wanting more like it.
*The story was entertaining. In spite of all my nitpicking I enjoyed it very much. A high recommendation to my friends who love a good vampire romance.
*The Epilogue, while a little on the sappy side I actually found appropriate and sweet. It was the whole tree thing.

All in all I loves this series and give it a strong 3.5 out of 5. As always, I enjoy reading Erica Steven's works and am looking forward to her next new series!
I looked forward to reading this final book in the series and I was not disappointed. What a fantastic wrap up! It wasn't rushed but it didn't drag out either. We got to see more of all the main characters - not just Aria and Braith. I loved how they found each other again and the little twists that were revealed throughout. Most importantly I love that Aria remained true to herself. She didn't lose her spirit no matter what happened. I will definitely have this series on my 'to read again' list.
