Wings of the Wicked Angelfire Courtney Allison Moulton Books
I had heard of Angelfire a couple years ago. I thought it sounded a little meh and predictable. I didn’t look at it again for almost two years, when the final book in the series was getting ready to be released. I both love and hate myself for that decision. I love that by putting reading it off for two years, I don’t have to wait a year to see how the series ends.I hate myself because that is two years that this book series wasn’t in my life.
Wings of the Wicked was spectacular. If the action and drama of having to destroy the demonic wasn’t enough, Ellie must deal with finding a way to balance every piece of her. She needs to be Gabriel, she needs to be Ellie, and she needs to be Will’s. There is always the worry in her mind of losing one of those pieces and not knowing what her world would be like if a chunk of it was suddenly gone.
Will and Ellie’s romance was superb. It wasn’t the typical Young Adult, teen love angst. Yes, some of that was there, but there was another layer to it because even if they looked young, their souls had been through so much. I felt so caught up in their every interaction, my heart hurting at one moment and soaring the next.
I’m so happy and relieved I was able to get Shadows in the Silence the moment I finished Wings of the Wicked because I would have crumbled if I had to wait. I want to dive right in and let Moulton’s story wrap its arms around me and take me right back into Ellie’s life. I am officially a Courtney Allison Moulton fan.

Wings of the Wicked Angelfire Courtney Allison Moulton Books Reviews
My Summary
It'd be nice to be a normal senior in high school with normal teenage problems but no suck luck for Ellie. She's the Preliator, hunter of demons, vessel to Gabriel, and a teenager in love with a gorgeous older guy who is totally off limits. Complicated doesn't begin to cover it. Warned of the hunt for relics that will lead to the lose of her soul, Ellie tries to get her homework done. But everything crushes to a stop when she is betrayed by one who should love her. Coping with some much loss, Ellie can't manage the strength to go on but Will is there to hold her together. But even he may not be enough to stop Bastian's evil plans to destroy her soul and the world.
My Thoughts
5 stars - a must read
I fell in love with the world that Courtney created in Anglefire. She combines heaven and humanity in a different, compelling way that has the reading turning the pages in rapid fire. Tipping the scales at over 500 pages, this book flew by. And believe me I didn't want it to end. It has a heartbeaking cliffhanger ending that had me jumping to goodreads to find the release date for book three. No good there, 2013 is too broad a range and way to far away!
As for the characters, I love them. Ellie is brilliant. She's the human teen that is trying so hard to be normal but she's not normal. She's the badass fighter send from heaven to fight the demonic reapers. It's a hard to line to walk but she pulls it off. She not perfect. She struggles and falls down but she doesn't break. I love that about her. I've seen authors break their heroines/heroes to prove something and I don't like it. Ellie hurts but she stays Ellie. Well done. As for Will, well what can I say about the gorgeous green eyed, dark haired Will. Badass doesn't even begin to describe his abilities. I love that he's a little different than most angelic reapers. (Okay not saying how - read the book). There needs to be that something extra to explain him. His devotion to Ellie is one of the things I love about him most. He would do anything to protect her, to make her happy but at the same time he doesn't try and shelter from being who she is. She fights with him. So sexy.
Oh and I need to say one little word about Cadan - he's so cute. That's it.
The story in this book is fast paced and at times brutal. From page one, Ellie is fighting for her life. There were some sweet moments and some grief but the action was strong, not to mention some steamy passion, lots of that too.
If you read Anglefire, this is a MUST read. If you didn't read Anglefire, what are you waiting for? This is a must read series for YA paranormal fans.
(Collected series review)
Holy crap.
I picked this book up, started reading it, and never put it down. I ended up reading all three books, back-to-back, in three days - engrossed in every page and every word.
Moulton's way of continuously and confidently raising the stakes and taking the story to the next level was exceptionally natural and believable. I will never know how she managed to execute the transition of Ellie, a pretty teenage girl with a regular life turning into the achingly fierce warrior that was always within her, so flawlessly.
There was something so impressively balanced about Ellie, how despite her power she remained vulnerable, and how despite determination there was an acceptance of doubt.
Ellie was so real, so solid, graceful, and had a great sense of humor. You trusted her, the path she chose and the choices she made. Possibly my favorite thing about her; she was never the damsel-in-distress, which doesn't mean she could take care of herself in every situation but she would always keep her head high, even when all odds were against her.
The Angelfire books were never short of action, and that is even an understatement. Demonic and angelic reapers and winged creatures, swarmed the story. The swords were always pulled and the anticipation of a fight hung in the air like mist. There's quite the bloodbath and I found myself countless of times sitting on edge.
Moulton found an interesting way to make 'Angelfire' an angel-story that hadn't been told before and it all came down to Ellie. Ellie is special in more ways than one; her backstory is intriguing and you'll be baffled, even shocked, by the secrets of her past.
There was a nice parallel to Ellie's teenage life (attending school, going to parties) and the life she was adapting to that puts the weight of human race on her shoulders. I liked that there wasn't ever a division between the two, it was all a part of the other and it kept the story stable - real. I loved that Ellie was capable of wielding her swords and fighting for her life, but that she held on to the other part of her as well.
There were so many well-developed characters. I loved Kate (the best friend), appreciated the realistic relationship Ellie had with her mother, and astonishingly, grew to care for characters that had less impact on Ellie but were a part of the story, like Nathaniel and Marcus.
And let's talk about Will. Stoic, fearless, flawed.
Despite being by Ellie, more or less, the entirety of over a thousand pages.. I couldn't get enough of him. My heart still leaped by the mention of him; his presence, his exterior, his words. I loved that he wasn't perfect, that he was complicated and unpredictable. He wasn't the knight in shining armor or the soul mate.
Oddly enough, I loved that despite their closeness, there was always a certain distance that needed to be closed. You got to fight with the love between Ellie and Will and I freaking loved it.
I don't know how many times Will turned my heart to glass, how many times my heart ached and warmed for them. In the end, I found that the 'Angelfire' books were an epic love story more than anything.
[Spoiler alert!] I had a soft spot for Cadan, he was great. Part of me so badly wanted the story to explore the possibility of Cadan and Ellie, just to storm the seas for a bit. Had the Angelfire series been four books, I think there would've been enough time for a little walk off course. However tempting a love triangle was, I found that Moulton was extremely wise in avoiding it. But I'm just saying! [Spoilers ended!]
Action, story, romance - you got it. Mythology fans should check these books out. Romance fans have to.
Loved it? Yes
Will I read more from the author? Yes
